Fires, politics, spikes in the COVID-19 outbreaks, gloomy news. What’s an author to do to escape the emotional storm clouds and enter the comforting cocoon of creativity?
Nature’s good for the soul and the psyche, but with the onset of winter weather, opportunities to hike, leaf-peep, walk, or bicycle will soon vanish.
Travel? Not for a while yet. Forget plane tickets, passports and crowds. Here are some “Alice in Cyberland” escapes to consider:
Go to THE NICEST PLACE. Need a good hug? Feel crushed by world events? Can’t find your writing mojo? This is the right place to come! As the creators say, the site is for those times you need to “turn the sad into happy and the happy into celebration.” It warmed my heart.
Get your dose of DAILY GOOD. I didn’t have time to peruse the site’s offerings, but I dipped my toes in the water and found this poem. I read the first several lines then started scanning. Very nice! The “Everyday Heroes” tab brings up some heartwarming stories, also.
Think POSITIVELY POSITIVE. Their “About” section states, “Our goal is simple: to bring uplifting voices and messages to our community every day. Our growing supply of blog posts, videos, and handpicked quotations are designed to remind us that there is good in every situation, and possibility in every person.” Frequent ads appear, which isn’t a bad thing so long as they’re clearly marked and as long as the content follows their admirable goal.
A plus for this site is the bounty of personal stories that are sure to trigger inspiration and insight that, with tweaking and your own personal touch, can become a launching point for a new novel.
Listen to a TED TALK. Known for thoughtful, inspirational talks, TED begins by asking about your area of interest. I selected “Communication” and from the topics that followed, chose “Inspiration.” In addition to warming your heart, these talks can stimulate your mind, always a good thing for writers.
I hope you find these escapes refreshing and muse-friendly.
Have you found inspiring cyber getaways? If so, please share, and happy writing!
Wonderful links! Thanks so much for adding sunshine to what’s been a lousy day.
Hi, Maggie, and you’re welcome! It takes so many less muscles to smile than to frown. 😉
Thank you for providing the links to something happy and uplifting, instead of mean spirited and cruel and just plain nasty, which is what it seems like the majority of communication is these days. I needed something nice.
You’re welcome, Terri! I’m so glad I could provide a change of pace! 🙂
Putting a smiley face on this column, Janet. Thanks for the leads to some upbeat, calming resources!
You’re welcome, Mark, and I enjoyed your recent blog when you took us into the action of filming a TV series pilot!
Thank you Janet! (8 family and two friends effected by fires). Your blog matches your smile.
And the sky was that incredible “Colorado fall blue” yesterday.
