Author: Mary Gillgannon

Mary Gillgannon began writing historical romance soon after she discovered the genre. She loves how these stories allow her to portray the excitement and high stakes of past eras, yet focus on relationships and create a happy ending. She has written seventeen novels, including romances set in the dark age, medieval and Regency time periods, time travel and historical fantasy. Her books have been translated into Russian, Chinese, Dutch and German. She has worked at the Laramie County Library for over twenty-fire years and acquires adult fiction as part of her job.

Marketing Madness (Or At Least, Neurosis)

Last month I shared my anxiety over my latest WIP, which was due at the end of February and not going well. The book had serious problems and I was struggling with what to do about them. I concluded the post by saying since I couldn’t throw away two-thirds of what I’d written and start…

Dark Night of the Writer’s Soul

Posted on February 5, 2021February 4, 2021 by Mary Gillgannon

Less than a month from my book deadline and I am floundering—flailing wildly like a proverbial fish out of water. I’m an intuitive writer and right now, my intuition tells me that both my hero and heroine lack agency and their internal conflicts have been too easily resolved. The pace of the book drags and…

Tough Decisions

Posted on January 8, 2021January 7, 2021 by Mary Gillgannon

At our last virtual get-together, one of my writer friends announced she was getting back the rights for a book she’d recently sold to a small press. The company had published several books for her already, and she’d been happy with those books and the publisher’s support. But the publisher wanted her to take this…
