Author: Terri Benson

Terri is traditionally and self-published in novel length, plus dozens of articles and short stories published—many award winning. She was Education Chair for RMFW for several years as well as being the Western Slope Liaison through 2019, an irregular blogger (in more ways than one), member of Sisters in Crime, presents workshops at writer's conferences, and teaches night classes at Western Colorado Community College. Terri spends her non-writing time working at a Business Incubator helping people start and grow small business, camping, jeeping, and dirt biking with her junior-high-school sweetheart/husband of 40+ years and a succession of Brittany spaniels.

I’d like some Whine with that Edit (or why you REALLY need an Editor)

Posted on August 26, 2020August 18, 2020 by Terri Benson

After the elation of signing two book contracts in 30 days, in the middle of COVID, I was brought very resoundingly back to earth when I got the first manuscript back from the editor. Thud. Ouch. I went through four rounds of edits with my first traditionally published book, An Unsinkable Love, several years ago,…

Why I volunteer with RMFW, part deux

Posted on June 24, 2020June 16, 2020 by Terri Benson

I just had the most amazing opportunity to fill out a publisher’s Publication Information Packet, and when I got to the dedication section, one of the three “thank yous” I had to mention was RMFW. Why, you ask? Well, I’ll tell you. I’ve been writing for more than forty years. I’d sold several articles, and…

Persistence in Adversity. Never Give Up. Hang in There!

Posted on May 27, 2020May 21, 2020 by Terri Benson

Are we sensing a theme? I’ve been reading lots of articles and blogs with these themes. Including ones directed to writers. And I’m here to say, emphatically, YES to all of the above. I’ve been writing for more than forty years. The SAME story, for more than twenty years! (OK, that might be consider stubborn…

What Day Is It?

Posted on April 22, 2020April 15, 2020 by Terri Benson

I’ve heard that a lot lately. These days, without the normal start of work day, end of work day, specific jobs that get done on specific days (like washing hair and changing clothes!) it can get very hard to keep track of what day of the week it is. Between that, and all the Zoom…
