(I’ve always wanted to say that. Or write that.)

To Ireland.

Next summer. 

I’ve been invited to teach for a week with Ireland Writer Tours.

My co-instructor will be a fabulous literary agent, Moe Ferrara, with BookEnds. 

One week—and only a dozen writers in the entire group. Intimate? Personal? Yes and yes. Individual attention will be abundance, but so will good group work and classes. You know the drill.

It’s basically a writer’s retreat combined with some dynamite sightseeing and tours around western Ireland—but we all know that on the tours we’ll all be chatting and discussing all things books and writing, won’t we? 

Our topic for the week is this: Building Three-Dimensional Characters: Bring Your Writing to Life and Write Stores That Sell. (More specifically about our week is here.)

One whole week to bear down and focus on your writing and taking in haunted castles, mysterious lakes, stone circles, holy wells, faerie forests, Celtic ring forts, and spooky caves.

Think of it this way: history and nature all rolled into one. 

History, nature & writing.

Oh, and pubs. 

Yes, I’m good for the pubs and a pint of Guinness. Nothing goes better than a beverage and some good writerly chat. 

Do you know the Van Morrison song “Coney Island?” Yeah, Coney Island as in the Ireland version, in County Sligo. That’s the song where I learned the Irish term “craic” (pronounced almost like ‘crack’ and meaning ‘enjoyable conversation’) and that’s just what I imagine the week will be—enjoyable conversations with like-minded folks who love writing and want to get better, who are eager to devote a whole week to their craft.

Yes, all this is dependent on us getting back to international travel. I choose to be optimistic, that we will have put the pandemic behind us by that point.
