Ever had that feeling? If you haven’t, then either you’re a very lucky person, or you’re fibbing!
I’m suffering through a particularly long spell of this problem. Work is busy. My grandkids have had multiple baseball and softball games each week after work. The weeds are growing to rainforest heights due to the wonderful/awful amount of moisture we’ve had this year, I decided to put in a garden because I was going to have all this time after work and on sun-filled weekends…and LIFE.
I know for many writers, the end of a school year means kids at home, perhaps more running around to get them to summer activities, or having them around all day when you’re used to having quiet time to write. And with warm, sunny weather, everyone is anxious to get outside and enjoy the sun (assuming the rain/snow/sleet lets up a bit), which will keep you outside much later into the evening than you’re used to.
All these things can contribute to LOW (lack of words) and insufficient BICHOK (butt in chair, hands on keyboard). It will take a whole new schedule to accommodate all the changes and still find time to write. But with the Colorado Gold contest, the 2020 anthology, and the Colorado Gold conference just around the corner, and the year flying by so fast, it’s important to carve out that time for yourself and your writing.
For me, writing is one time when I’m able to lose myself in just “me” stuff. I’m in charge of the story and my life during that time. Without it, I’m at the beck and call of…LIFE.
So take a few minutes, look over your schedule, and decide where you can fit in that writing. Don’t let LIFE rob you of that time. Enjoy the summer and your family and your day job, but don’t forget to WRITE ON!
Thank you, Terri.
Gatta go- my tomato plants are cold and striking for sun and warmth.
I’m right there with them!
Thanks for your devotion to bringing great speakers to the Western Slope, Terri. One more thing on your To-Do list. I’m looking forward to the speaker on June 15th about audiobooks.
Thanks, Faye! I’m so glad RMFW has lots of great presenters willing to share their expertise, and their time, with us!
Great post, Terri!
