With the new year, I’ve been thinking about the future and reassessing my current projects.
I’ve been an RMFW member for 23 years. For 12 of those years, I wrote my “Romancing the Tome” column, back when our newsletters were distributed by snail mail. I loved writing it and sharing my publishing journey with my fellow RMFW writers.
I’ve been writing my blogs for RMFW for several years. It’s been a labor of love, as well, sharing thoughts about post-publication writing and marketing, and the writer’s life.
In the last few months I have launched two new projects. The first one, near and dear to my heart, is audiobook narration. It combines my deep love for novels and the sheer fun and sense of accomplishment of making them come even more alive with the drama of the spoken word. The second involves the small business I’ve run for 28 years. I’ve revamped my business website, changed my business model, and I’ve taken the plunge into serious digital marketing.
All this leads to my decision to take some time off from blogging so I may more carefully focus on these two goals.
I applaud you, Kurt Schumacher, for the dedication and passion you have given to the RMFW blog. You’ve been an outstanding leader of the blog team, and your enthusiasm is refreshing.
I admire my fellow bloggers—you, Kurt; along with Terri Benson, Jason Evans, Mary Gilgannon, Ann Gordon, Rainey Hall, Maggie Smith, Mark Stevens and Kevin Paul Tracy. These RMFW members work hard to share their experiences and expertise with our members.
Thank you to everyone who has commented on my blogs over the years. As writers, we all know how important it is that our words be read. The joy comes when people appreciate those words and find the message helpful or entertaining. Please know that your responses over the years have been appreciated.
You have brought me joy to learn that my message touched or inspired you. You have made me smile to know you took time to read my posts. After all, my messages mean nothing until they’re received by someone.
Keep writing.
This is by no means a farewell! I’ll continue to read and respond to the RMFW bloggers and participate in RMFW programs. It’s a splendid group of friends and writers of which I’m proud to be a part.
Wish me luck with my goals—thank you in advance!
Happy new year, and thanks for your support of the blog.
Of course, I wish you the best, Janet! Everything takes time and effort and we all have to make our own decisions on how much time we have to devote to anything. Looking forward to hearing and seeing you again soon!
Best to you, Janet! See you soon. Yes, as Frank said, “everything takes time.” It’s true.
We will so miss you! Hope to see you at the next “real” conference!
Thank you, Frank, Mark and Terri! you have made my RMFW experience richer, an I’ll look forward to seeing you at September’s conference!
