True (truth) Quotes for Writers (and why I think they apply)

Posted on May 23, 2018 by Terri Benson

All truth passes through three stages: First it is ridiculed, second it is violently opposed and third it is accepted as being self-evident (unknown)

  • Anyone ever had a tough critique?

Truth is everybody is gonna hurt you – you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for (Bob Marley)

  • Ever agonized over which of your stories you want to work on?

Just because everybody’s doing something, doesn’t mean it’s right (unknown)

  • Trying to write to trends?)

Each person does see the world in a different way. There is not a single, unifying, objective truth. We’re all limited by our perspective. (Siri Hustvedt)

  • Ever go to a conference and workshop presenters have opposing suggestions?

Our uniqueness makes us special, makes perception valuable – but it can also make us lonely. This loneliness is different from being ‘alone’: You can be lonely even surrounded by people. The feeling I’m talking about stems from the sense that we can never fully share the truth of who we are. I experienced this acutely at an early age. (Amy Tan)

  • We’re writers, right?

What truths do you subscribe to in your writer’s life? Do what feels right for you, hear what sounds right to you, and most of all, Write On!
