A writer friend once told me if you’re writing a sad scene and it doesn’t make you cry, you’re not doing it right. If you’re writing a humorous passage and it doesn’t make you laugh, you’re not doing it right.
Wise words.
I would add, if you’re writing suspense and you’re not anxious, you’re not doing it right.
You’re not doing it right if you’re writing a mystery and you don’t have questions. If you’re writing romance and your pulse doesn’t quicken, you’re not doing it right. If you’re writing adventure and your adrenaline isn’t stirred, you’re not doing it right.
And, finally, if I’m writing a blog and I haven’t made my point in 135 words or less—maybe, just maybe, I’m not doing it right.

And horror, if not bleeding, I’m not doing it right. ?
Well, I wouldn’t go that far. But the hairs on the back of your neck should be doing the Charleston…if you’re doing it right.
